In 2003, the company introduced one of the most ground-breaking new products the floorcovering industry had ever seen. Made specifically to endure outdoor use, Couristan's award-winning Recife Collection helped revolutionize the area rug industry. Power-loomed of 100% Courtron polypropylene, UV stabilized and mold and mildew resistant, the launch of the Recife Collection was a major turning point for the company, setting Couristan apart from every competitor and opening new channels of distribution. Today, the company offers four cutting-edge outdoor/indoor area rug collections, representing over five dozen SKUs, and leads the industry as an innovator of this widely successful category.
While the company was initially known for its extensive assortment
of area rugs, Couristan diversified into new categories in the early
1950's when it began offering fine quality residential broadloom
designs. This decision proved to be pivotal in the ongoing growth and
success of the company, with broadloom sales becoming a major part of
Couristan's overall business.
Presently, Couristan's residential broadloom assortment features
over 60 products with styles ranging from traditional florals, to
classic Oriental and Persian designs, to neutral trellis and scroll
patterns and solid colors with distinctive textures. Construction
capabilities include Woven Axminsters, Wilton Loop Piles, Fusion Bonded
Loop Piles, Hand-Hooked Micro Loop Piles, Hand-Loomed Cut and Loop
Piles, Tufted Loop and Cut-Piles and Structured Flatweaves.
"Consumers are no longer looking at carpet as a funtional
floorcovering, but as a way to enhance the beauty of their home and to
help communicate a unique sense of personality and style," comments
George Couri, Chairman of Couristan. "The unparalleled breadth of
designs, colors and textures offered in our residential broadloom
assortment is a reflection of the importance we place on color
forecasting, design and construction analysis, as well as our ability
to globally source the best products at the best prices for the
consumer," stated Couri.
Seeing notable success with its residential broadloom products eventually lead to the foundation of Couristan's "Hospitality Concepts" Contract Custom Carpeting Division in the 1960's. Today, Couristan's dominance of the contract marketplace has earned it the reputation of being the undisputed market leader serving both the residential and hospitality broadloom industries with the experience, skills and production capability to handle even the most complex and demanding projects.
The division has grown significantly in the past 48 years with the capability of producing Custom Woven Electonic Jacquard Axminsters, Custom Woven Wiltons, 100% Wool Custom Hand-Tufted Rugs, ColourOptics Electonic Injection Prints and Custom Guest Room Tufted Carpets. Some of Couristan's award-winning custom carpet installations include such prestigious Las Vegas Hotels as the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Hilton, Mirage, Treasure Island and the Venetian Resort, Hotel and Casino. The company's esteemed standing in this niche part of the industry has also earned high accolades with Couristan being named as "The Official Carpet" of the 75th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as the 28th Annual Macy's Flower Show.
"Our custom carpeting division has proven to be an incredibly valuable asset in recent years and has become the biggest part of our business. Our production capabilities combined with our expert staff of designers, technical and quality assurance teams, as well as senior management has enabled us to maintain the highest-levels of design, value and customer service," comments George Couri.
